Training and development - a business essential

The company continues to recognise, through a number of accredited programmes, the importance and motivational impact of high levels of training and development both in terms of improvements in serving customers and also in developing and retaining talent within the organisation. We pay particular attention to the first 90 days of a new recruit’s employment with several of our businesses developing specific programmes to make sure we manage this vulnerable period well.

Training is offered to employees in many different ways, including online. Our Virtual Learning Resource Centre contains over 40 learning guides on a range of skills and management techniques such as performance management, strategic awareness, ebusiness and coaching. It provides an overview of leading thinking, ideas for practical development activities and recommended books, videos, journals and links to other useful websites.

In addition, our individual businesses continue to provide tailor made training programmes for their employees to ensure that their specific business needs are met now and in the future. The company also sponsors a number of places on MBA courses and Certificate and Diploma course in management studies, as well as other development courses every year.
