The role of leisure and tourism in the UK economy
The leisure and tourism industries are very important to the economy of the United Kingdom. Indeed, recent worldwide events have forced the government and others, including the royal family, to concern themselves with the future of the tourist industry. In this activity you are asked to compare national facilities for either the leisure or the tourism industry with those that exist locally. If you live in an area in which tourism is very important, you may well wish to focus on the tourist industry. If, on the other hand, your area is not one that is frequently visited by foreign tourists, you may find it more useful to focus on the leisure industry. Your objective for this activity is to produce a suitable report which could be submitted to the local council. This could inform officials of the quality of local provision as compared with national provision, including an analysis of the success or otherwise of facilities that do exist in your area. In order to present an informed report you may wish to investigate both national and local provision of facilities for either tourism or leisure. You may also like to take the views of your peers concerning existing facilities into account. You may however need to inform your peers about existing facilities, perhaps through a presentation, so that an ensuing discussion will make you aware of how well these facilities are known and used. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
